Terms of service

Effective date: 2026-10-12

Written for an open-source project; not legal advice. Suggestions welcome via GitHub.

In short. CryoShield is free and open source. It runs on OP Mainnet and has not been independently audited. It never holds your secrets or keys. If you lose every enrolled key, nobody can open your vault. What you save is published permanently. Please don't rely on it as your only backup.

Who we are

These terms apply to your use of the website at cryoshield.app, run by CryoShield, an open-source project maintained by its contributors (github.com/prix0007/cryoshield) ("CryoShield", "we"). There is no company behind it. Questions: open an issue in the repository; security reports go through private vulnerability reporting.

Network and audit status

CryoShield runs on OP Mainnet, and its code has not been independently audited. We give no warranty that CryoShield is secure or that a vault will remain available. Do not store high-value secrets in CryoShield as your only copy.

Your keys, your responsibility

  • CryoShield is non-custodial: we never hold your secrets, your security keys or anything that can open your vault.
  • If you lose every security key enrolled for a vault, the vault cannot be opened by anyone, including us. There is no reset and no recovery service. Enrol at least two keys and keep them in different places.
  • Each key needs its PIN (or fingerprint) to open or change a vault. You are responsible for your keys, their PINs and the devices you use.

Permanence

When you save, you instruct CryoShield to publish your encrypted vault, with the public details listed in our privacy policy, to a public blockchain and to Arweave. You understand that this data cannot be removed by us or by anyone else.

Sponsored network fees

CryoShield pays the network fees for saving vaults through a third-party sponsor. Sponsorship is free, capped, and may be paused, limited or withdrawn at any time without notice. You have no entitlement to it. Opening a vault never depends on it.

Donations

You can choose to send a donation in ETH on Ethereum mainnet to the address on /support, which is also published in the project's README.

  • Voluntary: donating is optional. CryoShield works the same whether or not you donate.
  • Nothing in return: a donation buys no goods, services, features, support or other perks, and creates no obligation for us.
  • Non-refundable: blockchain transfers can't be reversed. We can't refund donations or recover anything sent to the wrong network or in the wrong asset.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • abuse the fee sponsorship, for example by creating vaults in bulk or by automated means;
  • use CryoShield for anything unlawful, or to store content you have no right to store;
  • interfere with the site, the sponsor or other users, or test security outside our security policy.

Eligibility

You must be 18 or over. You must not be a person subject to comprehensive sanctions, or ordinarily resident in a comprehensively sanctioned country or region.

Open-source software

The CryoShield software is open source under the MIT license. These terms govern only your use of the hosted website; the license governs the code.

Third-party services

CryoShield relies on services we do not control: the hosting provider (Fly.io), the fee sponsor (Pimlico), the blockchain and its public access endpoints, and Arweave and its gateways. Their availability and behaviour are outside our control.

Disclaimers

The CryoShield software is licensed under the MIT license, and the hosted site is provided on the same terms. As the license says: THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. This applies to the website as well, to the extent the law allows.

Limitation of liability

As the license says: IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE. The same applies to your use of this website, to the extent the law allows. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer under mandatory law where you live.

Changes

We will post changes here and update the effective date. The full history is public in our source repository.

  • 2026-10-12: removed the donation tax clause and the governing-law section. CryoShield is MIT-licensed open-source software with no company behind it; the MIT license's warranty disclaimer and limitation of liability still apply.
  • 2026-10-09: the audit-status section is now "Network and audit status" and names the network the site runs on. CryoShield still has not been independently audited; don't keep high-value secrets here as your only copy.
  • 2026-10-08: each key needs its PIN to open or change a vault.
  • 2026-10-05: new "Donations" section (the /support page).
  • 2026-10-03 (revision 2): CryoShield is an open-source project: operator and GitHub contact filled in; the disclaimer and liability clauses now mirror the MIT license.
  • 2026-10-03: first draft.
